The perfect post-workout smoothie? You found it: my 3-Ingredient Cantaloupe Strawberry Smoothie ! It is vegan, Paleo, and has no added sugar.
A Perfect Post-Workout Smoothie
Say hello to a perfect, post-workout smoothie. Sure, you can slurp this any time of the day, but the combination of cantaloupe and strawberries is a slam-dunk after a tough cardio/aerobic workout (like the 6 am spin class I taught this morning).
Here’s why: What you eat after a workout really does matter.
Reach for Low-Fructose Fruits
In order for your body to recover and get the optimal benefits from your workout, reach for some high-quality protein and high-quality carbohydrates within an hour after your workout. Your blood sugar is lower after a tough bout of exercise, but you don’t want it to spike quickly with high-glycemic foods.
Cantaloupe and strawberries are considered low-fructose fruits, so they are great choices (not to mention delicious).
Go Nuts for Almonds to Speed Recovery
For protein, I added a heaping tablespoon of natural almond butter. Packed with protein, health omega-3 fats, calcium, fats and B vitamins, almond butter/almonds will stave off hunger pangs and facilitate muscle recovery. The flavor, in combination with the fruits, is stellar, too.
My cantaloupe was super-sweet, so I didn’t add any other sweetener; go by taste when making yours, adding a bit of stevia, monkfruit or maple syrup to suit your taste.
Power on, everyone!

Made it using coconut yogurt. It is delicious, I’ve never used cantaloupe in a smoothie and it is great. Really good after my long ride this morning. Thanks!
Coconut yogurt sounds like a great option, Paul!
